Although watersports is the medium, the Club is first and foremost a social education facility, concerned with the development of children and young people.
Run every Tuesday and Wednesday, 5pm - 7pm and Saturdays 11am - 4pm, these sessions are the main point of contact for local children and young people with the Club.
Youth Club sessions are run daily 10am - 4pm, Monday to Friday during the Hackney school holidays.
Members must be over 9 years of age and must wear a bouyancy aid if wishing to take part in water based activities. Each session costs £1 (or £20 for annual membership).
During the Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday sessions there is open canoeing for beginners through to 'Three Star' paddlers, games, coaching and trips. Dry activities are also available for those who do not wish to get wet, including art projects, games, narrowboat trips, rock climbing, trips to the cinema, adventure play grounds and much, much more!
Once or twice a month we organise and run day-trips away, such as to the large Thames weirs, dinghy sailing on reservoirs, paddling on the Thames or River Lea, participating at regattas and special events. Other activities include art workshops, ice-skating, rock climbing, and trips to the swimming pool.
The cycling club also meets monthly where safety, cycle maintenance and trips are organised.
During the year five or six weekend residential trips away are also organised by the Club. These are important opportunities for the young people to develop their boating skills on open and moving water, to learn to live and work together and to experience different parts of the country. They are also an opportunity for the youth workers to develop relationships and raise issues. Generally there will be a mini-bus party of two or three workers and twelve young people. The destinations include white water kayaking on the River Dart and Scotland, a multi activity trip to Bude Cornwall, and sea kayaking - a new activity for 2007.
